The top selling car in Limerick for 2022 has been revealed
The top-selling car in Limerick for 2022 has been announced whilst electric car sales saw a major boost.
The top-selling car in Limerick last year was the Toyota Corolla, selling 171 units in 2022.
Toyota was also the top-selling car brand in Limerick with three of their models making up the top five selling cars including the Toyota Rav 4 and the C-HR.
Electric car sales also saw a significant boost in new electric car sales rising by 84.48% with a total of 428 units sold compared to 232 units in the year previous.
A total of 3,559 cars were registered in the Treaty County compared to 3,479 units in 2021, a change of 2.3%.
MPV’s were the most popular car body type in Limerick with 1,066 units sold whilst hatchbacks remained the most popular nationwide.
Petrol engine cars were the most popular in Limerick with 1,094 units, diesel engines saw 990 unit sales, hybrid cars made up 773 units and electric remained in fourth overall with 428 units.
105,253 new cars were registered nationwide in 2022 compared to 104,932 for the same period in 2021 (+0.3%) and 117,109 in 2019 (-10.1%).
15,678 new electric cars were registered in 2022 compared to 8,646 in the same period in 2021 (+81.3%) and 3,444 in 2019 (+355.2%).
SIMI director general Brian Cooke commented: “Despite the re-opening of the economy and strong economic growth, 2022 was another challenging year for the Irish motor industry, with new car sales as well as commercial vehicles being impacted by supply constraints.
“On a more positive note, the electric car segment continues to grow strongly with 15,678 new electric cars registered in 2022, an increase of 81% on 2021.
“[I’m] looking forward to the new 231 registration period, retailers are reporting strong new car orders, which will also attract vital trade-ins for the used car market,” Mr Cooke said.
