THE OWNERS of a popular music venue are celebrating after being recognised for the work they do to keep their premises looking first class.

Mick and Valerie Dolan, who founded Dolan’s at Dock Road in the city have been named the first winners of the Limerick City Tidy Towns award for 2023.

Maura O’Neill of Tidy Towns, who presented the prize praised the husband-and-wife team for the overhaul they have to its exterior.

"Our volunteers are often stopped by tourists during our evening pick-ups asking for directions to Dolan’s, as it is clearly on many bucket lists for visitors to Limerick. At the latter part of last year, the exterior of the building was given a huge overhaul with extensive repair and paint work and new lighting and exterior floral displays which now makes it an impressive go-to location on the outside as well as for what’s inside, which is so important given its prominent location on the Dock Road, one of the main routes in and out of city,” she explained.

Since Limerick City Tidy Towns launched its awards scheme in 2014, it has honoured one business owner each month for their efforts.

However, from 2023, prizes will only be given out every two months.

It means Dolan's is the first of six winners for the year and is in with a chance to be the overall winner when that's announced early in 2024.

A special awards event will take place in March, where the overall winner for 2022 will be crowned, with an online poll to decide this just closing.

If you wish to nominate a business in the city for an award or volunteer with Limerick City Tidy Towns, they meet every Sunday morning at 11am at the corner of Thomas Street and O’Connell Street.
