ONE of the largest school's in County Limerick has been forced to remain closed this Wednesday due to an unexpected power outage in the locality.

Confirming the closure in a post post on social media, John the Baptist Community School in Hospital said it was not opening for the entire day. It's understood the decision is due to safety concerns.

More than 1,000 students are currently enrolled at the secondary school.

A tweet posted by the school at 8.47am read: "Please note that John the Baptist CS is closed today due to a power outage. Thank you."

The cause of the outage, which was reported by ESB Networks at 6.44am, is unknown and according to the powercheck app, almost 1,800 customers are affected.

Crews are currently working to restore power but there is no indication as to when the fault will be fixed.
