A child and family agency is seeking foster carers "for the most vulnerable in our society."
In a bid to recruit new foster carers from "all walks of life" to meet the growing demand for placements in Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary, Tusla launched its Foster Care Recruitment Campaign across the region.
Among the world leaders in foster care, Ireland saw 4,000 carers open their homes to 5,171 children. In 2022, 389 new foster carers joined Tusla, and 489 children entered foster care for the first time. But, the figure falls short when it comes to the current need for foster care placements.
There are many types of foster care, including short-term, long-term, emergency placements, respite fostering, and other support for young people who need them.
Over the years, Tusla foster carers have positively transformed the lives of vulnerable children and young people, but they need more people to ensure they meet the growing demand in the Mid-West.
And, a local placement will ensure young people maintain important connections with their friends, sports, school, community, as well as reach their full potential.
Regional Chief Officer Tusla Mid-West, Dr Caroline Cullen, said: "Every year, hundreds of children and young people come into care, which means the need for new foster families continues to increase. Tusla foster carers provide a safe, secure and stable home environment for the most vulnerable in our society."
"We are looking for foster carers from all walks of life and cultures, including the Roma and Traveller communities. Ensuring that children can stay connected to their communities is vitally important and can provide stability to a young person when there are big changes happening around them," she continued.
Dr Cullen encouraged anyone considering fostering to visit fostering.ie for more information, or attend their online information sessions on March 9.
