Vacant Limerick site looks set to get a new lease of life

HERBERTSTOWN Men’s Shed has published planning permission to redevelop a rundown site in the local community.

The site known as the Store has been a vacant premise in Herbertstown for over 22 years.

The plan for the Store    is to develop it into a space for the community.

There will be a community café installed in the refurbished building along with office space, an internet hub and walled-in gardens

Herbertstown Men’s Shed was formed in 2018 and have been looking for a place to base themselves in the community but could not find anywhere suitable.

The original plan was to demolish the building but it is a protected structure so they had to come up with another plan.

The men's shed received almost €500,000 from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme for the project.

The men’s shed are custodians of the site.

“It’s going to be a community asset once it is completed,” Dan McInerney of the shed added.

“It’s the next generation of parishioners who will benefit from this rather than the men's shed.”

They hope to see physical work started on the site by the end of 2023.

Herbertstown Men’s Shed will be hosting a public meeting during the month of March to give the local community information about the upcoming project and the plan for the future.
