Closures and diversions have been scheduled for Sunday afternoon
MOTORISTS are being advised that "significant" road closures will be in place in Limerick city on Sunday due to the Munster SHC match between Limerick and Cork at TUS Gaelic Grounds.
Gardai say ‘major’ traffic diversions and road closures will be in place around the Ennis road area of the city and the surrounding areas from 2pm with the match throwing in at 4pm.
In a public notice, Limerick City and County Council has confirmed the routes that will be closed. They including Union Cross/Ennis Road, Shelbourne Road and Lower Shelbourne Road and the Ennis Road from Henry Street to Ivan’s Cross.
Traffic will be diverted via the Northern Ring Road, Clonmacken Road, Shannon Bridge and Thomond Bridge and match-goers are advised to be parked “at least one hour” before the match starts at 4pm and to use on-street parking which is free on a Sunday.
A spokesperson for the local authority said prohibited parking will not be tolerated. This includes parking on “green areas” or “blocking of private property in residential areas”.
Limerick City and County Council, An Garda Síochana and Limerick County GAA Board are warning that illegal parking will result in vehicles being removed and towed away.
