 Unique project sees Limerick students unlock special EU funding

A STUDENT-staff team at one local university has received more than €5,000 in special funding for a project they are working on.

A team from Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) at Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has been awarded funding under the new N-TUTORR—Transforming Learning initiative.

LSAD students Glen O’Sullivan, Zishu Deborah Gao and Camille Perlada, who are from Limerick city, are members of the team awarded funding for a project entitled Co-Designing LGBTQ+ Assets as Situated Practice.

The aim of their project is to further develop equality, diversity and inclusion principles within a module for Masters students who are doing the Interdisciplinary Design programme at TUS.

The N-TUTORR funding grants have been awarded to 131 projects across the seven institutions including TUS. More than €650,000 is being awarded under the programme, with each project receiving up to €5,000 in funding.

The announcement of the funded projects took place at an event in Dublin and is funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU programme

The Limerick project will be in collaboration with the LSAD at TUS “Makerstation” and the LGBTQ+ Allies Staff Network.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility is the largest component of NextGenerationEU, the European Union’s response to the global pandemic. The aim is to help repair the economic and social damage brought about by the pandemic and to prepare for a post-Covid Europe that is greener, more digital, more resilient and fit to face the future.

Ireland is expected to receive more than €900 million in grants over the lifetime of the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, which was developed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) by the Government to allow access to funding.
