A NUMBER of cars have been stolen from multiple homes in Limerick.

A house was entered in Adare, the criminals came in through an unsecured patio door and took the car keys of two cars and then drove them away. The thieves also took a handbag, cash and bankcards while they were in the home.

A woman in her thirties from Oola heard a sound, when her husband looked out the window; he discovered that their car was gone.

When he came downstairs, he saw that drawers in the kitchen had been searched and the car keys were gone. They had stored their car keys out of sight but they had neglected to lock the back door.

A man in his thirties from Murroe came home at 2am to discover his jeep was gone. He had left his keys on the windowsill and did not secure the window. The thief opened the window, reached in and then drove off in the jeep.

A man in his fifties was in a city centre pub last Saturday at lunchtime. He had put his car keys on the table and did not notice when a thief took them and a bag of very expensive photographic equipment. This photographic equipment will very likely, be offered for sale as the criminals want cash.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station offered advice to the public: "Lock your car, Lock your windows and doors and keep your car keys out of sight, in a drawer or a press but not on the hall or kitchen table.

"Gardai know that criminals look in windows to see if there is anything worth taking and then they try the doors. It is important to protect your car keys when you are out too.

"If you are offered anything in suspicious circumstances, refuse to buy it and report the incident to your local Garda station."
