LIMERICK student Tara Madigan has won gold in the U18 five kilometre run for Ireland in the British Transplant Games.

Tara is a student at Castletroy College and underwent a liver transplant in 2012. She is part of a 34 member squad that travelled to the games in Coventry where there will be over 1000 transplant recipients taking part.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree for Tara as she is the great-granddaughter of the late Limerick hurling legend Mick Mackey.

Tara will also compete in the 200m race and the long jump at the Transplant Games.
