LOCALS in Garryowen have been left "traumatised" by the fatal assault that occurred in the area, said Limerick TD Maurice Quinlivan.

Deputy Quinlivan has been contacted by a large number of residents in the area who are "very upset" with what has happened.

At approximately 4.45am this Saturday, November 4, gardaí responded to reports of an incident at a property in Sarsfield Avenue, Garryowen.

On arrival at the scene, a male (aged in his 40s) was discovered unresponsive outside the house. Ambulance personnel tended to the man who was pronounced deceased a short time later.

“It is such a sad thing to wake up to and especially the people in the locality have been traumatised by what is after happening," said Deputy Quinlivan.

"It is a quite enough area and we need to get a proper response to what is going on, particularly for the families of the deceased. We are urging people if they have any information about the incident to come forward to the gardaí or myself,” he added.

A male (aged in his 40s) was arrested at the scene of the incident. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Limerick.

Tributes are being paid on social media by family and friends of the deceased.
