Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes has pleaded not guilty to all charges
THE JURY in the trial of All-Star Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes has begun its deliberations.
The seven men and five women retired to consider their verdict shortly before midday this Friday after the presiding judge, Dermot Sheehan, completed his charge to them.
Mr Hayes, aged 25, of Ballyoshea, Kildimo and Craig Cosgrave, aged 24, of Caherelly, Grange have pleaded not guilty to charges relating to offences which are alleged to have happened in the city centre during the early hours of October 28, 2019.
Mr Cosgrave (pictured above) is charged with one count of violent disorder in the Icon nightclub in Limerick city centre. Mr Hayes, a four-time All-Star, is charged with violent disorder in the Icon nightclub; violent disorder at Upper Denmark Street, and assault causing harm at Upper Denmark Street, Limerick city. The alleged victim is Cillian McCarthy, aged 24, of Tooreen, Ballysimon.
Evidence in the trial concluded on Wednesday and the jury heard closing submissions from from the prosecution and defence barristers on Thursday morning.
The jurors then heard from Judge Sheehan who, in his charge, told them to leave aside any biases they might have.
He completed his charge to the jury this Friday morning.
