A SEARCH operation is underway at Foynes Port, following the reported detention of a cargo ship, Limerick Live can reveal.
It's understood the vessel, which was transporting grain, was boarded by Revenue and Customs officers this Tuesday afternoon shortly after it arrived at the west Limerick port.
In response to a media query, a Revenue spokesperson confirmed an operation is underway but declined to elaborate any further.
"Revenue Customs service are currently undertaking a live operation and no further comment is available at this time," they said.
Confirming they are aware of the operation a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana declined to comment further saying: "This is a matter for Revenue Customs service at this time."
It's unclear, at this stage, if any contraband has been located during the search.
