IN A HUGE boost to Limerick’s economic landscape, a top European process engineering company is marking its 40th year in business with a €10 million investment for a new cutting-edge facility.
The BCD Engineering facility in Charleville has now doubled in size, thanks to this investment, and Limerick employees are set to benefit as more jobs are to be created in the area.
The 3,000 sqm state-of-the-art expansion comes four years after BCD joined the Italian Masco Group.
The company develops solutions for industries like pharmaceuticals, biotech, food and beverages, and chemicals.
BCD, currently employ over 240 full-time staff and 100 contractors, delivering design and engineered solutions for world leading brands such as Pfizer, Eli Lily, JNJ, MSD, AstraZeneca, Abbvie, MSD, Carbery, Dairygold, Danone, and Irish Distillers.
Aside from making room for more production, the investment will allow the company to become more eco-friendly.
The expansion includes the installation of solar panels, meeting the company’s commitment to having 60% of its energy from renewable resources by the end of 2024.
Crecora man and CEO of BCD, Richard Keays, highlighted how the expanded capacity now allows BCD to serve more markets in Europe and the US.
“As a leading supplier to the Irish Pharma market, which is the largest pharma market in Europe, we now have extra capacity and automated manufacturing to deliver to wider European markets.
“Along with the expansion, BCD has achieved accreditation to allow us to deliver our equipment to the US market.”
John McMahon, the founder of BCD, looks back on the company’s first days with pride, saying: “Golden Vale Engineering was where it all originated but when that closed it was far from the end but instead a new beginning for this sector and for employment in this area.”
Having made a big impact on the economies of north Cork and south Limerick, Mr McMahon added that it is his “greatest joy” knowing that this impact will continue in the region.
Speaking at the unveiling of the new facility, Luca Borella, CEO of Masco Group, is happy with the progress of BCD, saying:
“We’ve given BCD its autonomy, and it has delivered thanks to an amazing team.”
