Enjoy stunning views of the countryside during the walk on St Stephen's Day
THE ANNUAL St Stephen's Day walk in Cappamore will raise funds for the Bone Marrow Leukaemia Trust in memory of the late Niamh Berkery, who sadly passed away on October 7 this year.
Monies collected will be used to provide crucial support for patients and families undergoing treatment.
Organisers of the walk say Niamh and her family got huge support from the trust while she underwent her treatment in Dublin.
"They provided Niamh with accommodation in one of their seven apartments near St James Hospital. Niamh always said it was like home away from home, where her family and friends could come visit and stay and spend time together away from the hospital. We know her family will be forever grateful for the support and care shown to them and Niamh.
"We think of all the people currently going through treatment and families affected by cancer in our parish. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers," reads the post on the St Stephen's Day Charity Walk 2023 Facebook page.
They will also be raising funds for St Michael's Day Care Centre in Cappamore. The late Liz Grant, manager of the centre for many years, who passed away earlier this year will also be in walkers' hearts and minds. Liz was a great supporter of the walk and was always grateful for the funds she received for the friends of St. Michael's Day Care.
"We look forward to seeing you all on the day and all donations - big or small - will be greatly appreciated," say the organisers.
The walk on St Stephen's Day takes place at the end of the Kyle Rd (V94 N1WC) starting at the entrance to the forestry - it will be signposted from the village.
There will be three distances to walk - 3.5km, 7km and 9km. The walk starts at noon so please be there for 11.45am at the latest to allow time for parking.
Parking is limited so please car pool as much as possible. Please wear suitable footwear as it may be muddy in places after all the rain. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
All are welcome to attend and raise money for two wonderful causes.
