Fatal collision prompts road closure in Limerick

MOTORISTS are being advised of a road closure following a fatal road traffic collision in Limerick.

A section of the Charleville Road in Kilmallock is closed off for a 24-hour period from Friday, February 2, to Sunday, February 4.

The affected stretch of the R515 Charleville Road spanning from its junction with the L1536 'The Pike' in Effin on the Charleville side, to its junction with the L8573 'Pender's Bend' on the Kilmallock side.

To facilitate the closure, Limerick City and County Council have assured that a comprehensive traffic management operation will be implemented, including detours.

The closure takes place after man in his 60s was killed following a two-vehicle road traffic collision this Friday.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle, that occurred on the R515, Kilmallock.

The male driver of the motorcycle, 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick, a garda spokesperson confirmed. 

The male driver of the car, 40s, received treatment at the scene for injuries believed at this time to be non-life-threatening.
