EFFORTS are being made by An Garda Síochána to “manage tensions” in Ballinacurra Weston after several serious incidents have occurred in the past few weeks.
Members of a Joint Policing Sub-Committee of the Metropolitan District in City Hall were given details on several of these incidents by Superintendent Paul Reidy of Roxboro garda station
In one case, on Saturday, January 13, a man, aged in his 30s, was seriously injured as a result of a "number of gunshots” in the Crecora Avenue area at around 4pm.
While the injured party is still recovering in the hospital, Superintendent Reidy said that there have been “a lot of seizures of items and evidence in respect of the investigation have taken place and a number of arrests have been made.”
The superintendent also said that “one particular individual” has already been brought before the courts.
In the following days, another shooting occurred, which resulted in another garda response.
This resulted in another garda operation where evidence and drugs were seized after eight properties were searched.
A number of additional units have been brought into the area as a response to the rising violence.
“We are trying to do our best in respect of resources to enable the situation to remain calm,” he said.
