A NEW accommodation centre for refugees will be located in a county village, Limerick Live has learned.

In official correspondence seen by this website, it is revealed that Thomond House in Galbally is being readied as a multi-occupancy accommodation centre for beneficiaries of temporary protection.

A letter of intent has issued from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to the owner of the property of “its intent to enter into a contract for 24 months from completion of the works to provide accommodation for a maximum of 33 people”.

All requirements of building control legislation must be met prior to occupation with “a completion date in May anticipated for this managed self-catering facility”.

Thomond House, which has eight bedrooms, was offered for sale in summer of last year with an asking price of €395,000.

The auctioneer described it as a “landmark property in the heart of the village”.

“This former B&B property has been lovingly and painstakingly restored and maintained to the highest standard by the current owners,” they say.

All eight bedrooms are ensuite with the master bedroom's bathroom including a large jacuzzi (pictured above).

The 4,500 sq ft property has a multi-purpose room, music room and gardens with extensive lawns and access to playground and park, said the auctioneer.

Thomond House was also previously a public house in Galbally but is now set to be an accommodation centre for refugees.
