THE COUNTDOWN is now under way to the biggest night in Limerick’s business calendar.

On Friday, November 15 next, The Strand Hotel in the city centre will play host to Limerick Chamber Regional Business Awards and its presidential dinner.

Backed once again by Limerick Leader, the prizes celebrate the outstanding contributions of business people across the region.

The awards are open to businesses of all sizes and sectors, with no requirement to be a member of Limerick Chamber, which is the largest business representative group in the Mid-West.

The deadline for entries falls on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

There are eight categories including an award for best emerging business, best not-for-profit and best small to medium sized enterprise.

There are also categories recognising firms which are focused on employee wellbeing, and contributions to the community.

One of the eight companies honoured will receive the top award of the night, the Limerick Chamber Regional Business of the Year.

A special lifetime achievement-style award will also be conferred on a particularly noteworthy individual or group selected personally by Chamber president Noel Gavin.

Prof Vincent Cunnane, the president of the awards’ lead sponsor, the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) said: “TUS is delighted to continue its support for local business, innovation, and the local economy through our continued sponsorship of the Limerick Chamber Business Awards.”

Gillian Barry, head of innovation and enterprise at TUS, added: “The awards are a fantastic tool to help attract new talent, celebrate staff achievements, and promote companies. TUS sponsors these awards because we believe in the power of innovation, creativity, and resilience to transform our regional economy.”

The best overall business of the year title last year went to Castletroy-based medical technology firm Carelon.

Its chief executive John Patrick Shaw said winning the award has made his firm an attractive proposition for people wanting to join the firm.

“The straightforward awards process allowed us to effectively showcase our strengths and achievements,” he added.

More than 400 business people from across the region are expected to attend the awards, with tickets on sale from September.

Chamber President Mr Gavin said: “These awards and the president’s dinner are vital for recognising and highlighting the tremendous work that takes place all across our region. They provide a platform to celebrate and reflect on the year, reminding us of our past achievements and inspiring hope for the future.”
