Limerick auctioneer Lisa is all set to lead IPAV as its president

New IPAV president, Lisa Kearney, of Rooney Auctioneers

A LIMERICK auctioneer who has taken the helm at IPAV has called on the Government to give urgent consideration to the Housing Commission Report and congratulated Mayor John Moran on his election.

Lisa Kearney, director of Rooney Auctioneers, is the new president of IPAV, Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers. She said the commission, a key commitment in the current Programme for Government, has deliberated for two and a half years.

“It’s more than six years since the then Taoiseach described the housing situation as a ‘national emergency’. While progress has been made, major delays and blockages in planning, infrastructure, approval processes and financing remain,” said Ms Kearney who added that it deserves urgent and forensic attention.

She said what needs to happen is that all strands of housing policy be pulled together under a decision making entity that has full Government support.

“We need to dispense with the system whereby decision making is captured by ‘independent republics’ of Government departments and local authorities, each with their own divergent set of housing priorities, and replace it with a cohesive unit or structure working for a period of years to the same clear set of objectives,” said Ms Kearney, who congratulated John Moran on his election as mayor of Limerick.

Ms Kearney said: “If there is anything we can contribute, and I know there is much market intelligence we can provide, IPAV would be only too happy to offer our services.”
