Cllr Adam Teskey is the Cathaoirleach of Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District while Cllr Stephen Keary is the Leas-Cathaoirleach
THE AGM of the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District - the first meeting since the local election at the beginning of June, saw two familiar faces return to the helm at the top table.
Fine Gael colleagues Adam Teskey and Stephen Keary, who were both elected in the first count, were elected as Cathaoirleach and Leas-Cathaoirleach.
With formalities out of the way, the ongoing issue of the boil water notice for 7,000 people under the Foynes/Shannon Estuary scheme came to the fore.
The notice was put in place in May 2023, and despite commissioning works with upgrades including an ultraviolet disinfection unit, there is still no end in sight for those affected by the notice.
Cllr Teskey called on the new mayor, John Moran, to call an immediate meeting with Uisce Éireann and to treat this as a priority issue.
Councillors were on a site visit in December and were told that the notice would be lifted imminently, but nothing happened.
His party colleague Cllr Keary called for a dedicated person to be assigned from Irish Water to regularly communicate with and update the councillors about progress.

Mayor John Moran said that while he appreciates their frustration, this issue goes beyond their district and he has to consider all of Limerick and not just one area.
He asked councillors to give him a summary of events so far and said that overall, he wants a list of their priority issues to form part of his mayoral plan.
Mayor Moran said he will request the meeting and will attend if he is in a position to do so.
