PEOPLE in Limerick city and county are being warned to secure their homes, lock doors and windows and to keep house and car keys out of sight.
Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer with Henry Street garda station told Limerick Live that in one instance, the doors were not locked.
“A number of youths came into the house through the patio door and disturbed the owner who was asleep on the couch and they left empty handed.
“We may check that the front and back doors are locked, but remember to check all doors,” she said.

In burglaries in Meelick, Ardnacrusha and Rhebogue, criminals were targeting car keys and cars.
In these cases, keys were spotted through the window on a hall table, radiator cover or kitchen table.
Sergeant Leetch warned: “Always store your car keys in a press or drawer but definitely out of sight.
“While on the subject of burglaries, I want to remind owners of retail premises to leave their tills open and empty at night. Keep the cash float in a safe until the opening of business.”
