A LIMERICK community is set to see improvements to its footpaths and roads following a €450,000 grant from Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

Significant safety works are to take place along the N69 between Clarina village and Brick Lodge. The scheme will include the setback of the footpath six metres from the road and the construction of a four-meter shared surface.

The 700 metre stretch has become a popular walk for many locals, but has also seen a number of fatalities over the years.

As a result, community groups in Clarina - Ballybrown area have campaigned for these measures to be introduced. Now their efforts have paid off.

The council’s príomh chomhairleoir Dan McSweeney said: “This is major news for the area. It is a project I have worked extremely hard on for the last six years with our local Minister Patrick O'Donovan and council staff.

"At times it has moved slowly but now we can look back and see how far this planned scheme has come with the finish line in sight.”
