The late Jason Corbett and his children Jack and Sarah
STREAMING platform Netflix is releasing a new tell-all documentary featuring never-before-seen material on the killing of Limerick man Jason Corbett, in the United States in 2015.
Mr Corbett, was killed by his wife Molly Martens, and her father, Tom Martens, a former FBI agent, at his home in Lexington, North Carolina, in August 2015.
The new documentary, entitled 'Deadly American Marriage,' has been in production for over four years and will be released on May 9, featuring exclusive interviews with Mr Corbett's children Jack and Sarah along with Molly and Tom Martens and US law enforcement agents and court officials.
It will offer a rare glimpse into the conflicting perspectives of those closest to the case and asks viewers to reflect on the elusive truths beneath a once seemingly fairy-tale life that ended in tragedy.
The streaming platform said the documentary "sheds a bright light on the many questions that have lingered since the shocking events of that night."
Molly and Tom Martens were convicted of murder in 2017, two years after Jason's killing, but appealed the conviction, which was later quashed and they were released from prison in June 2024.
The father and daughter agreed a plea deal with Davidson County's District Attorney, who accepted a plea of guilty to voluntary manslaughter in return for dropping murder charges.
They were sentenced to a minimum of four years and three months in prison at a hearing in November 2023, but that sentence was to include time already served.
It has emerged that Molly will be able to move back into her parents home in the US in six weeks when her probation supervision period ends.
Jason's children Sarah and Jack returned to Ireland to be raised by Jason's sister, Tracey, and her husband, Dave.
Sarah (18) published a memoir earlier this year and courageously shared the story of her father's untimely death and the emotional and psychological abuse that marked her childhood.
Recalling moments of intense abuse, she reflected on the toll it took on her and her family, explaining how Molly manipulated her and her brother Jack into carrying out actions that, in hindsight, they would never have chosen.
Speaking to Limerick Live when the memoir was published, Sarah said: “I think it's really lifted a weight off my chest because I lied.
“I did lie for Molly, and she is free now because she used that lie as evidence to get away with killing my dad and this is only three days after she beat my dad to death.”
Her memoir grapples with the devastating impact of control and manipulation but also offers hope. “There was a lot of things that I had to unlearn from Molly. She taught me how to make myself sick so that I (could) manage my weight when I was six or seven.
Produced and directed by Jessica Burgess (Rich & Shameless, American Monster) and Jenny Popplewell (What Jennifer Did, American Murder: The Family Next Door), 'A Deadly American Marriage' explores the mystery behind Mr Corbett’s death.
