BASKETBALL enthusiasts have received a boost for the Easter break, with public access being provided to a court in Mungret Park.
Limerick City and County Council has secured an agreement with the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (ETB) to allow public access to the courts for the weekend, and the remaining week of the school holidays.
It's hoped the court will be open for other school holidays, and the weekends following this pilot.

Local councillor Daniel Butler, pictured below outside the basketball court, says one of the courts will be open, while outstanding works are done in the other.
He paid tribute to Limerick City and County Council and the ETB for facilitating the opening.
"This project has been an important piece of work for me personally, driven by a commitment to deliver a safe, accessible, and positive space for young people in the area. I firmly believe in the power of sport and outdoor activity to bring people together, promote wellbeing, and strengthen community ties. This court will be a valuable resource for years to come," Cllr Butler predicted.
"I remember first coming up with the idea for this court and knowing how needed it was. To now see it fully delivered and open to the public is incredibly rewarding. Projects like this show what’s possible when the community, local authorities, and partners come together with a shared vision," he added.
