THERE will be road closures from 2pm onwards in Limerick for the final of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship (SHC).
That is according to gardaí, who are “strongly advising fans” to walk to the stadium from the city centre, as 44,000 spectators are expected to descend on TUS Gaelic Grounds for what will be a ferocious battle between historic rivals, Limerick v Cork on Saturday, June 7 at 6pm.
Motorists are advised of multiple road closures and diversions in effect from 2pm onwards at the following locations:

“First and foremost, we’re asking supporters to plan ahead, arrive in good time, and park legally,” said Sergeant Aoife Bannon, community policing, Henry St garda station.
“There’ll be some parking available between Coonagh Roundabout and Caherdavin Cross on the Ennis Road, and also at TUS Campus on Old Cratloe Road. But again, get there early.”
Gardaí have advised that anyone who needs to avail of disabled parking must go through the Limerick or Cork County Boards.
“After the final whistle, we’ll prioritise getting people safely out of the area,” Sgt Bannon continued.
“There’ll be two outbound lanes on the Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh Roundabout, and all outbound traffic on Ennis Rd will be sent via the R445 onto the N18, using Exit 5 toward the Limerick Tunnel.

“Condell Road will be closed inbound, and other roads like Cratloe Road will be managed to keep the flow moving. Inbound traffic into the city will have to use Sarsfield Bridge or Thomond Bridge.”
Additionally, gardaí want to remind matchgoers that no flares or smoke bombs are allowed and if caught, you could face criminal charges.
“Don’t drink and drive, text and drive, or use your phone while driving,” said Sgt Bannon.
“And lastly, don’t leave valuables visible in your car. Either leave them at home or lock them out of sight before you arrive at your parking spot.”
