LIMERICK is well represented in the Rose of Tralee with our own Leah McMahon, UAE Rose Ceiline O'Meara and Queensland Rose Siobhan Edwards all flying the green flag.

The escorts aren’t letting the side down either with two Limerick men ready to step up the mark - Brendan Gleeson, Kilteely and Joe Hennessy, Knockcarron.

It’s going to be a busy few days for Brendan as he goes from being an escort to  a groomsman. Brother, Philip  will marry Susan O’Sullivan, Old Pallas, in Templebraden church on Saturday, August 23. Coincidentally, Susan was a Limerick Rose finalist a number of years ago.

Both Brendan and Joe wish to thank their parishes, clubs, businesses and locals for their support and financial sponsorship.

Brendan said it is  all about the Roses.

“I'll be there in the background to have a bit of craic and to look after the  Roses. I've been told it's one of the best weeks you will ever be a part of and you will come out with lifelong friends,” said Brendan.

Joe studied Ag Science in Tralee for four years. “From talking to locals they were all saying the atmosphere is electric,” he said. Joe went down for a night at last year's festival.

“I hadn't experienced anything like it during my years in college. We'll all be helping the Roses during a  stressful time,” said Joe.
