Objector’s appeal over Limerick's Analog Devices is thrown out by national body

THE NATIONAL planning appeals body has dismissed an objection to a proposal by Analog Devices to make a change to its premises in Raheen.

The semi-conductor manufacturer secured conditional permission from Limerick City and County Council to replace a section of existing cladding with glazing on the north-west and part of the south-west part of its Catalyst Building, which opened in March 2022.

The individual, who has objected to a number of bids by firms to develop at the Raheen Industrial Estate, appealed against the council’s decision, to An Coimisiún Pleanála, formerly An Bord Pleanála.

He claimed agreements between the council and the site landowner, IDA Ireland relating to the Loughmore Canal had not been complied with. He said the course of the canal was not being maintained.

He also referenced previous applications from Analog Devices Ireland, which is one of the city's largest employers with more than 1,200 staff on its books, and claimed Raheen “does not have the infrastructure to support this level of development.”

The individual has often cited the same, or similar reasons in his objections to national planners.
In this instance, the Commission decided substance of the grounds of appeal did not relate to matters of the proposed development. They dismissed the appeal.
