Gardaí continue to investigate the fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a van and a motorcycle which occurred at John Street, Dublin Road, Drogheda, shortly before 7.10am on Friday, August 29.
“The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, sustained critical injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he was pronounced deceased on Sunday,” said a garda spokesperson.
Mr O’Shaughnessy’s family, in his death notice, have extended their deepest gratitude to the paramedics that attended the scene and to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU Department of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda, in particular, Pamela, Tasha and Enrico and "to everyone who has supported us over the last few days".
Mr O’Shaughnessy is sadly missed by his beloved family - parents Patrick and Kathleen, siblings Grace and Ian, partner Olga, nephew Seán, brother-in-law Jacques, aunts, uncles, cousins, work colleagues and many many friends.
He resided in Laytown, County Meath and worked in Screwfix where colleagues are trying to come to terms with his sudden passing.
One co-worker described Mr O’Shaughnessy on rip.ie as “the kindest, nicest and most loving, happy person I've ever met”.
“I was blessed to have him as my manager in Screwfix. All the staff there are family, not work colleagues, and he made it the best place ever to work as it never felt like work. He made my day go from bad to good every time I stepped through those doors into work. He made me look forward to going in.
“He was the best person I’ve ever met and he will be missed more than words can ever describe. The shop will never feel the same again without our motorbike man.
“The world has lost an absolute diamond and heaven has gained one of the absolute best gentlemen you could wish for. Loved and missed so much already Pat.”
Mr O’Shaughnessy was well known and liked through his work with Screwfix, his sporting pursuits with St Michael’s Rowing Club and at his countless biker meet groups.
He will repose at St Paul's Church, Dooradoyle this Wednesday, September 3, from 5.30pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass on Thursday, September 4, at 1pm. Funeral afterwards to Castlemungret Cemetery, Mungret.
May he rest in peace.
Investigating gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of the Bull Ring and John Street, Drogheda between 7am and 7.10am on Friday, August 29 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda garda station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station,” said the garda spokesperson.
