FOR the first time in the history of the Limerick City Tidy Towns awards, residents rather than a business have been honoured by the group.
Since the awards scheme launched, initially monthly, back in 2014, the volunteers have nominated business owners for the condition in which they keep their shop fronts and the surrounds of their premises.

But the award for August and September 2025 has gone to the warden and residents of Richmond Terrace in Henry Street.
They are being honoured for their beautiful communal garden and house frontages.
Maura O’Neill, Limerick City Tidy Towns said: “What’s rare is beautiful, and this can certainly be said of our latest bi-monthly winner which has gone to residential rather than business premises for a change.”
“These beautifully maintained terraced houses and communal garden at the historic Richmond Terrace on Henry Street is fully deserving. It is a little gated oasis in the heart of the city with its beautiful landscaping and floral display and impeccably maintained historic terraced houses set behind original traditional wrought iron railing and wall,” she added.
Now home to a community of retired people, Richmond Terrace originally comprised seven individual Georgian townhouses on Henry Street Upper.
The original lease dated March 1, 1842 was made between Edmond Henry, Earl of Limerick and John Bowerman for all seven houses.
It has enjoyed a rich history since then, having been home to many well-known Limerick families throughout the years, and was refurbished in the 1990s when one house was removed.
Now owned by the John Nash Charity, it remains a handsome row of six houses and continues to provide comfortable city centre living for its residents nearly 182 years later.
Richmond Terrace is the fourth winner of 2025.
