A COUNCILLOR has declared that “Cork’s loss is Limerick’s gain”.
Fine Gael member John Sheahan was speaking after Patricia Liddy returned from Cork County Council to work for Limerick City and County Council.
She has been given the transport brief, a high-profile role given the number of major roads projects which are on the horizon.

Among these, of course, is the Limerick to Cork M20 motorway, although this is being handled by a separate office.
Ms Liddy was introduced to councillors at a special meeting last week, where councillors gathered to discuss the setting of the Local Property Tax.
She was introduced by the director general of Limerick’s local authority, Dr Pat Daly.
Dr Daly spoke about working with her before and how she has a lot of experience and already knows how Limerick City and County Council works.
Fianna Fail council leader Michael Collins also noted her “vast experience”.
Cllr Sheahan commented she is “known for having fantastic ability”.
He said she went to school in Tarbert, as he did.
Other political groupings also welcomed Ms Liddy and wished her the best of luck in her new role.
It was stated at the meeting that she is now the director of service assigned to the Cappamore-Kilmallock district and that she will also have responsibility for transport.
Ms Liddy has more than 30 years of experience in local government.
She holds an MSc, a BA, a diploma in corporate governance and a diploma in project management among other things.
