Community sports facility in Limerick all set for development works

Limerick City and County Council is seeking a firm to complete an upgrade of the sports fields at Mungret Park

LIMERICK City and County Council is looking for a contractor to complete an upgrade of the municipal sports field at Mungret Park.

The local authority has issued what is known as a tender to have the works, which are worth €100,000, completed.

Whichever firm is successful will be charged with improving the durability of the playing surface to ensure it can better support the wide range of local sports groups and schools which regularly use the pitch.

Metropolitan district leader Daniel Butler, who also represents Mungret on the local authority, has welcomed the news.

He said: “This is another important addition to the facilities we are delivering in Mungret Park. The pitch is used by many local clubs and schools, and this investment will make it more durable and fit for purpose for years to come.”

He acknowledged the generosity of Analog Devices, which gifted the land for public use a number of years ago.

Earlier this year, a sensory garden was added to the park.
