Two students fall victim to rental scams in Limerick city
RENTAL scams are continuing to rise in the city centre.
Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer of Henry Street Garda Station said: “Two students separately paid deposits for an apartment."
“When they went to view the property in person, they discovered that it was already occupied and that the address had been used previously in a rental scam."
"Both victims reported the incident immediately to their banks and to Gardaí,” added Sgt O'Halloran.

The local crime prevention officer reminded students to be careful offering the following tips: Always view a property in person before handing over money, be wary of requests for cash or untraceable transfers, use reputable letting websites or agents and check reviews and trust your instincts — if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
"Accommodation scams tend to rise at the start of the academic year, so we want to ensure the public remains vigilant."
