Driver took over from terminally ill friend - Limerick court hears

AN UNINSURED driver told the court she was only driving as her friend who was terminally ill needed her assistance.

On February 27 of this year, Erica De Silva Alcantara was stopped by gardaí on Station Road in Newcastle West and was found to have no insurance and failed to produce it at a garda station.

The 30-year-old has an address in Templegreen, Station Road, Newcastle West, County Limerick. Through an interpreter,

Newcastle West District Court heard that Ms De Silva Alcantara was in the car with the car’s owner, who is terminally ill and that she “was feeling very unwell” and she drove instead. The case was dismissed.
