THE ORGANISERS of the Ryder Cup event, which is coming to Limerick in under two years from now, believe it will Ireland’s most exciting sporting event ever.
Shannon Chamber members at a luncheon event in Dromoland Castle Hotel were treated to a preview of the scale and impact the 2027 tournament in Adare Manor will have both on Limerick and the wider region.
Addressing the event, David Brookes, of the 2025 Ryder Cup organising team, who is a golf consultant with decades of industry experience, said: “It promises to be the most exciting sporting event ever staged in Ireland and will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase Shannon Airport and the west of Ireland to a global audience.”

He admitted the interest shown for tickets for the big event in September 2027 has already exceeded all expectations.
“We’re encouraged by the tremendous local support. There will be many opportunities for businesses and communities to get involved,” he added.
Shannon Chamber chief executive Helen Downes, who hails from Hospital in county Limerick expressed full confidence in the region’s ability to deliver a world class event.
“Anything the USA can do, we can do better,” she boldly stated. “I have every faith that our Shannon and wider regional community will pull out all the stops to make Ryder Cup 2027 an event that will live in our memories for decades to come.
Shannon Chamber will certainly play its part in ensuring that those who wish to become involved can do so.”
Looking back on the 2025 Ryder Cup held in Bethpage Black, which wound up in September, members of the organising team in the USA shared some statistics which underline the global reach of the blue riband tournament.
“Sky Sports viewership increased by 45% compared to 2023, with 40% of viewers on the Sunday under 35 years of age, and 5.3 million peak viewership in the USA,” Mr Brookes told those gathered in Dromoland Castle.
“Across all Ryder Cup channels, the event generated 866 million social impressions and 432 million video views,” he added.
The last time the USA v Europe tournament was held on this side of the pond was in the Italian capital of Rome in 2023.
Mr Brookes said then, the event saw viewers from 201 countries and 271,000 spectators came in person.
“It delivered €262 million in economic activity for Italy and achieved 11.3 billion social media impressions globally. The Ryder Cup captivates audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world, and we expect the 2027 event in Adare to have an even greater impact,” he concluded.
It’s the second time the Ryder Cup tournament will have taken place in Ireland, with its last staging on these shores back in 2006 at The K Club in Kildare.
