An Coimisiún Pleanála overturn permission for 97-home plan in Limerick

PERMISSION for almost 100 homes in Raheen has been refused by An Coimisiún Pleanála.

Limerick City and County Council afforded Rockspring Developments the go-ahead to construct 97 homes at Baunacloka in Raheen.

However, four people wrote to the national planning appeals body in the hope of getting the decision overturned.

In that number was The Grange Residents Association, which raised concerns about the potential for anti-social behaviour from the new development.

They also expressed fear over the danger of increased traffic to the site due to the construction of a pedestrian and cycle link between their estate and this development.

Another person objecting suggested the proposed apartment blocks were out of character for the Raheen/Dooradoyle area, which they described as “overpopulated and oversaturated with residential developments.”

They also said there were fears of the impact the development could have on the Loughmore Canal.

The proposed development was to be made up of 54 three-bed units, and four units with four bedrooms.

On top of this, 38 apartments were planned in a mix of one and two bed units.

However, An Coimisiún Pleanála refused permission.

It said it is not satisfied the development wouldn’t impact local environmentally protected sites.

However, they said the principle of housing on the site is acceptable, subject to safeguards to protect the area’s established environmental and historical assets.
