An unsettling video of the incident has been shared on social media. It features a heavy-set man lying on the ground. He doesn’t appear to be moving.

A woman in a dressing gown is trying to lift him up. Another woman is standing to the side of the stricken man while a young girl is holding a blanket.

A third woman in a puffer jacket walks over to the scene. The woman in the dressing gown nearly trips over the man’ feet as she goes over to speak to the woman in the jacket and pushes her  onto a car.

The two women end up on the ground where there appears to be hair pulling and grappling. The video concludes with two males endeavouring to break it up.

Minister of State Niall Collins said this was a frightening incident to occur in a quiet village.

“This was 5.30pm on a weekday afternoon when children would be coming home from school and they had to witness these ugly scenes. I commend the people who intervened in the altercation between the two women. I urge anybody who can help gardai with their enquiries to contact Bruff garda station,” said Mr  Collins.

A garda spokesperson said they received a report of an incident of assault that occurred in Knocklong on October 15 at approximately 5.30pm.

“A male in his 30s was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.
