Abandoned bins removed from laneways in Limerick city centre

NINETEEN abandoned bins have been removed from laneways across the city centre, as part of a new clean-up drive.

These are bins which have no stickers to show they are certified by council and paid for, and have been left in public spaces by private owners.

They are often left there for a long period of time and are evident by foul smelling odours from rotting refuse.

However, metropolitan district leader Cllr Daniel Butler has been working with the local authority executive to have clean-outs done of various laneways in the centre.

Some 19 of these bins were removed from a number of city centre locations, including Limerick Lane, Augustinian Lane, Fox’s Bow and Fish Lane.

Cllr Butler said: “I welcome the swift action taken by our cleansing crews to respond to long-standing issues around illegal dumping and the general upkeep of our lanes. These clean-ups make a visible difference and show what can be achieved through focused effort.”

He said more needs to be done to ensure the city centre stays clean, safe and welcoming for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

“The council will continue to prioritise city centre maintenance, working closely with local representatives, businesses, and the wider community to address problem areas and support a cleaner, more vibrant Limerick,” he pledged.
