HEARTS were pounding and hearts were in mouths at the nail-biting conclusion of Pallasgreen GAA Club’s Quid Games fundraiser.
Ballykisteen House Hotel was thronged for the sporting event to raise vital funds for the club’s extensive field development project - building a new stand and walkway.
Over 400 men, women and children were there to watch 30 brave contestants take on a series of challenges to see who was the last man or woman standing.
The event is inspired by the Netflix show Squid Game.
After months of fundraising, teamwork, and camaraderie, the night marked the moment where friendship turned to friendly rivalry as each contestant set their sights on becoming the champion.
The evening was filled with laughter, excitement, and a healthy dose of competition, as the audience passionately cheered on their favourite contestants.
It came down to a play-off between contestants Michael Hally and Christian O’Dwyer to see who was crowned Pallasgreen GAA Quid Champion. Christian O’Dwyer emerged as the winner with his chosen charity Milford Care Centre receiving €7,000 and €3,000 for himself.
Amidst the fun, there was also a touching moment when Colin Ryan was honoured by the club for his All-Ireland Poc Fada victory earlier this year.
The presentation was made by his father and club chairman, Denis Ryan, adding a personal and emotional highlight to the night.
Pallasgreen GAA extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the event possible - from the organising committee, who worked tirelessly over the past three months to ensure everything ran smoothly, to the main sponsors, Lee’s Centra and St Ailbe’s Credit Union. Gratitude is also extended to all who sponsored contestants, donated raffle prizes, attended on the night, MC Valerie Wheeler, photographer Aoife Kiely and everyone who contributed to the success of the night.
Most of all, Pallasgreen GAA thanks the 30 contestants who put their heads above the parapet and devoted so much time and energy to Quid Game. Their fundraising efforts exceeded all expectations.
