LIMERICK Council officials have vowed that the grounds of a new dog park in Caherdavin will be “fully reinstated” on completion of works.

Some residents have expressed concern at the muddy state of the grounds this week. They say they felt “let down” at the lack of consultation ahead of construction commencing.

Limerick Council said: “while recent wet weather has affected ground conditions, works are progressing and the area will be fully reinstated once conditions improve.”

They added that proposals for the Caherdavin Green, including the dog park, were presented to local residents at a public meeting held in the community centre on October 22, 2024.

Further public consultation took place online at mypoint.limerick.ie from April 29 to May 27, 2025 where members of the public were invited to review proposed locations for dog parks across the city.

One local resident, Mandy Skelton said there is zero parking for the dog park and that the council “have completely destroyed a lovely green that floods eight out of 12 months of the year.” She said she was shocked to see work beginning at the site.

“This was the first I'd heard of a dog park. I asked a few of the neighbours and no one was told about this.”
Limerick Council stated that a press release announcing the consultation was issued in advance on Limerick.ie.

“Feedback across both stages of consultation was generally positive, and no objections were received regarding the Caherdavin site.” Ms Skelton said that residents have no problem with dogs but have concerns.

“The problem is we weren't told about it and we're worried about antisocial behaviour... We want answers as to who is going to maintain the park.”
