Proceeds of crime redirected into Limerick city community groups

SIX Limerick projects will receive a total of €654,344 in funding under the Community Safety Fund, which redirects proceeds of crime seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau and An Garda Siochana.

The Moyross Community Enterprise Centre will receive €150,000 to assist their Summer Youth Employment & Leadership Programme, which provides work placements and leadership training to 15–17 year-olds.

Our Lady of Lourdes Community Service Group will use their allocation of €135,877 for a pilot project in Ballinacurra Weston to introduce a community health, wellbeing, and fitness coach.

Engage in Education received funding of €133,000 for their Compass Programme, which provides support to senior cycle students in disadvantaged communities, aiming to reduce school dropout and youth offending.

Dance Limerick Hub was awarded €102,545 for a project, which aims to enhance safety, civic pride, and community cohesion in John’s Square through 18 months of arts-based engagement.

Doras Luimni received €101,135 for a project aiming to prevent anti-social and criminal behaviour among young migrant men.
Blue Box Creative Learning Centre received €31,787 for a therapeutic programme for young people at risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system.

“Redirecting the proceeds of crime into community safety isn’t just a smart policy, it's justice in action. The growth of this fund reflects years of work to ensure that crime doesn’t just get punished, but the redirected proceeds also get turned into community action,” said Senator Maria Byrne.
