A NEW playground is set to be built in community on Limerick's northside, with a local councillor confirming precisely where it will be located.
The new Caherdavin playground is to be located in the community's parish field, located at Redgate Road.
Additional work is to take place to transform it into a neighbourhood park.

Cllr Olivia O'Sullivan confirmed the news, adding: "I am delighted to confirm negotiations are progressing well to secure the parish field as the location for the new Caherdavin Playground. There won’t just be a playground, but a neighbourhood park developed for the local community, something that has been lacking in this area for its growing population."
The Fine Gael councillor outlined how €410,000 has been secured for the facility, the first €100,000 of this coming from a dedicated fund of northside members.
"All of that ringfenced funding will go towards this playground and park project," she added.
"The parish field is an ideal location, being a lockable amenity beside the local primary schools, the church, the scout hall and the credit union - this area is already a centre of local activity. The schools have been consulted and are supportive. Caherdavin Celtic FC already have the use of the parish field for training, and they have been consulted on the project also to make sure all the local organisations are working in tandem with the council to make this work," said Cllr O'Sullivan.
She thanked Limerick Diocese and Fr Pat O’Sullivan of Christ the King Parish Church in Caherdavin.
The project will include works to improve access and safety for the Redgate Road entrance and a car park area.
The council had previously selected two other locations for the Caherdavin Playground which were later deemed unsuitable, so it's hoped it is a case of third time lucky here.
"It has taken us a long time to get here, I am six years fundraising for it and working with the council to see it progress. This location at the parish field, if managed right, will be a wonderful park and recreational amenity for the locality," the councillor concluded.
