Funding boost for local groups in Limerick as more than €10k is allocated by councillors

At the November meeting of the Newcastle West Municipal District, councillors officially signed off on €6,684 in General Municipal Allocation (GMA) funding to support a range of community initiatives

AT THE November meeting of the Newcastle West Municipal District, councillors officially signed off on €10,684 in General Municipal Allocation (GMA) funding to support a range of community initiatives across west Limerick.

Among the allocations, Cllr John Sheahan directed €1,000 towards Glin Library, while Cllr Jerome Scanlan assigned €4,000 of his funding to public lighting improvements.

There was strong festive support too, with Cllr Liam Galvin allocating €1,000 and Cllr John Sheahan €934 to Tony Noonan’s Christmas Lights in Templegalntine, a much-loved charity display that raises funds for local causes each year.

Cllr Francis Foley and Cllr Liam Galvin also joined forces to back Mary Shanahan’s Oral History Project, contributing €750 each to preserve stories and traditions from the Abbeyfeale area.

Elsewhere, Cllr Tom Ruddle allocated €1,000 toward improvements at the Feohanagh grave yard, and an additional €250 to the Newcastle West Music Trail, which promotes live local performance.

Finally, Cllrs Galvin and Foley each contributed €500 to support the Dromtrasna Challenge, a popular community fitness event that raises money for charity.
