Cllr Brigid Teefy has formally submitted a notice of motion seeking immediate action on the 514, particularly close to Caherconrey Graveyard
ROAD safety fears relating to a busy stretch of the R514 between Grange and Herberstwon have led to renewed calls for resurfacing and upgrade works, after Cllr Brigid Teefy formally submitted a notice of motion seeking immediate action on the Caherconrey Road.
At the November meeting of the Cappamore–Kilmallock Municipal District, Cllr Teefy asked that road resurfacing and improved safety measures be carried out on the R514, noting that sections of the route are in “poor condition” and that works are “particularly needed in the vicinity of Caherconrey Graveyard.”
Speaking after the meeting, she said the narrow road, poor surface quality and a dangerous bend approaching the graveyard have made the route increasingly unsafe. “It’s a regional road with an awful lot of traffic,” she said, highlighting the mix of local motorists, passing traffic and school buses that rely on it daily.

Persistent surface water runoff from higher ground and the rapid growth of self-seeded trees along the roadside are adding to visibility and safety concerns. Cllr Teefy said senior executive engineer Diarmuid Sheehy has committed to tackling the overgrown trees.
She said addressing flooding, improving the surface and widening visibility points are essential. “It’s to help with the safety, the conditions are only getting worse.”
