€50,000 funding available for Limerick organisation from the Heritage Council

For Limerick’s network of biodiversity and cultural organisations this represents an opportunity to secure financial support

HERITAGE AND environmental organisations across Limerick are being urged to apply for a major funding opportunity offering up to €50,000 per organisation.

The Heritage Council’s Core Funding Programme, which is now open for applications, is designed to strengthen the stability and long-term sustainability of non-profit organisations working within Ireland’s heritage sector.

The fund differs from traditional project-based grants by focusing on core operational work rather than standalone initiatives.

Its purpose is to help groups with regional or national significance remain stable, build internal capacity, invest in staff, and adopt environmentally responsible practices that support climate action and public benefit.

For Limerick’s active network of biodiversity groups, and cultural organisations, this represents a significant opportunity to secure support and funding.

To be eligible, organisations must operate independently from public or state control as well as working across at least two local authority areas.

Applicants are also required to show alignment with at least one national policy, such as the Heritage Council Strategic Plan and the National Biodiversity Action Plan.

Applications will be assessed on several core themes by The Heritage Council.

They will examine how well an organisation’s work aligns with national strategies and they will also consider organisational capacity, with a focus on financial structures and the ability to deliver sustained, meaningful work.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on January 26, 2026. Submissions must be made online, via the Online Grants System.

With growing interest from Limerick organisations in climate resilience, biodiversity protection and cultural preservation, this funding round is expected to attract interest from groups seeking to expand their impact and secure long-term stability.
