Following a query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson said: “I can confirm gardaí were alerted to an incident of criminal damage of a vehicle outside a premises on Ennis Road, Limerick city on the evening of Saturday, December 3, 2025.”

The spokesperson went on to say that the fire brigade put out the blaze and investigations are ongoing.

Limerick Fire and Rescue Service received the call-out at 5.59pm with two appliances rushing to the scene. Firefighters were back at base in Mulgrave Street at 6.51pm after extinguishing the fire.

A video of the car ablaze has been widely circulated on social media. There are unconfirmed reports that the incident is linked to an ongoing feud between rival groupings on the southside of the city.

It is not known if the car is owned by the family of an expectant or new mum, or if somebody was visiting a woman in the maternity hospital.

The HSE and HSE Mid West have been contacted for comment.
