More than half a million euro in new CLÁR funding has been announced for community projects across County Limerick, delivering a major boost for rural towns and villages.
Limerick City and County Council has confirmed that a total of €546,132 has been awarded under Measure 1 of the CLÁR 2025 programme, supporting nine separate projects aimed at improving local facilities and infrastructure.
The CLÁR Programme, delivered by the Department of Rural and Community Development, targets small-scale capital projects in rural areas experiencing population decline, with the aim of strengthening communities and improving quality of life.
The funding will be used to enhance community centres, playgrounds, sports facilities, car parks and walking amenities, with projects approved in Anglesborough, Athea, Ballylanders, Feenagh, Galbally, Glin, Kilbehenny, Kilfinanne and Kilmallock.

Among the successful applications are €65,000 for Anglesborough Community Centre for facility enhancements, €65,000 for the development of a multi-use playground and walking track project in Athea, and funding for new and upgraded sports facilities at Ballylanders, Glin and Kilbehenny.
Playground works at Glenbrohane National School in Kilmallock have also been approved, alongside car park upgrades in Galbally and Kilfinanne.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran said the funding represents “a real vote of confidence” in rural Limerick, adding that investment in sports facilities, playgrounds and walking tracks helps to ensure no part of the county is left behind.
Príomh Chomhairleoir Cllr Catherine Slattery said the projects would deliver “real, tangible benefits” for towns and villages, while Director General of Limerick City and County Council Dr Pat Daly praised the role of local volunteers and community groups in bringing the projects forward.
Council officials also acknowledged their role in assisting communities with the funding applications, welcoming the positive impact the works will have across the county.
