'The potential to be used in criminal activity': Firearm stolen from premises in County Limerick

GARDAÍ are investigating the theft of a firearm from a premises in west Limerick.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said:

"Overnight between, Thursday the 11th and Friday the 12th of December, a firearm was stolen from a premises in the Dromcollogher area. This incident is currently under investigation by Gardaí in Newcastle West."

"This is a serious matter, as any stolen firearm has the potential to be used in criminal activity."

Sgt O'Halloran is reminding all licensed firearm holders of their responsibilities. "If you are licensed to hold one or two firearms, you must use a trigger lock, disassemble the firearm, and securely store the parts separately."

"Those licensed to hold three or more firearms are required to store them in a locked gun safe, which must be bolted to a solid wall."

If anyone has any information regarding this stolen firearm, please contact Newcastle West Garda Station on 069 20650 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

The local crime prevention officer is also reminding all firearm certificate holders who have not yet done so to submit their renewal forms, which should have been received by post. Once completed, they should be returned to your local Garda station.

"Failure to renew a firearm certificate on time may result in a person being in possession of an unlicensed firearm."

"If you no longer require a firearm and wish to surrender it, please contact your local Garda station for advice and assistance with the process."
