There was a major garda operation in Rathkeale on Sunday due to an emotive anniversary Mass. The garda helicopter was deployed for a period.
Following a query from Limerick Live regarding the shooting, a garda spokesperson said they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding an incident where a firearm was discharged at a location in Rathkeale on Sunday at approximately 9pm.
“No injuries have been reported at this time. A technical examination of the scene has been conducted. Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.
The town is said to be “on tenterhooks” with gardai, concluding armed members, maintaining a strong presence.
Rathkeale’s population has swelled in recent weeks due to the annual influx of Traveller families returning for Christmas with the celebration of many weddings and baptisms.
The overwhelming majority of the town’s visitors enjoy visiting friends and families and cause no issues for gardai.
However, there is an element that gardai are monitoring closely, particularly those involved in an ongoing violent feud.
