LIMERICK firefighters entered a burning building in the early hours of this Tuesday morning and rescued a woman, Limerick Live has learned.
The fire broke out at an apartment in the Nicholas Street area of the city shortly before 3am.
Firefighters rushed to the scene where the blaze was well established with thick smoke billowing out windows.
They entered the apartment, discovered an elderly lady inside and brought her to safety. Paramedics, also in attendance, treated the woman for smoke inhalation. It is understood she will make a full recovery.
After ensuring there were no other occupants the apartment fire was quickly extinguished.
A garda spokesperson confirmed to Limerick Live, following a media query, that they assisted Limerick Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a fire. “It occurred at a domestic residence in Limerick city this Tuesday morning, December 23 at approximately 3am. No injuries have been reported at this time,
“A technical examination of the scene has been conducted. No foul play is suspected at this time,” said a garda spokesperson.
It is not known how the blaze started.
