Gardaí urge motorists to secure vehicles after theft from car in Limerick City

The victim stated there was an issue with the car’s key fob and believed the vehicle may have been left unlocked

LIMERICK gardaí are investigating the theft of a wallet from a car in Limerick city.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said:

"On 18th December, on Bedford Row in Limerick, a male reported that his wallet was stolen from his car. The victim stated there was an issue with the car’s key fob and believed the vehicle may have been left unlocked."

Gardaí in Henry Street Garda Station are investigating this incident.

"The big one is don’t leave valuables on display. Even if you’re just running into a shop for a minute — handbags, phones, wallets — take them with you or lock them out of sight in the boot before you park," added Sgt O'Halloran.

"Always lock your car, even if it’s outside your house. Try to park somewhere well lit, and don’t leave things like coins, chargers, or bags visible. Thieves will take any opportunity. It’s all about making your car a less attractive target."

The local crime prevention offered the following advice for motorists:

"Make sure all doors and windows are locked by checking the door handle, do not rely on the mechanical sounds or flashing lights you may just have unlocked your car. Protect your car keys and report suspicious activity and crimes to Gardai or security staff."
